Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a common cause of cardiovascular disease and a significant problem in developed and developing countries. Thus, nursing interventions must focus on physical and emotional and spiritual responses. SEFT is an alternative for people with Hypertension. SEFT therapy provides light tapping (tapping) on 18 points of the body's meridians which aims to stimulate and activate the body's 12 main meridians so that there is a balance between the body's energy and a relaxing effect on the body.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of SEFT on blood pressure in people with Hypertension in the working area of the Rasimah Ahmad Public Health Center, Bukittinggi City, in 2021

Methods: Type of quantitative research using pre-experimental (one group pretest-posttest). The sample in this study was 19 respondents: non-Probability Sampling technique (purposive sampling) and data collection using observation sheets and processed by computerization.

Results: It was found that the average systolic blood pressure before (pretest) SEFT therapy was 141.32 mmHg. The diastolic was 93.42 mmHg, the average systolic blood pressure after (post-test) SEFT therapy was 136.58 mmHg, and the diastolic was 88.58 mmHg. Thus the results of the Wilcoxon Test obtained statistical results obtained systolic p = 0.003 and diastolic p = 0.001, α = 0.05 (p <α), which means there is a significant change in blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients who have been given SEFT therapy.

Suggestion: It is recommended for health workers, especially nurses, to be used as a basis for realizing evidence-based practice in treating hypertension sufferers with complementary therapy.
